In the memoir Angela's Ashes written by the Frank McCourt, he faces many obstacles especially in his early childhood. In order for Frank and his family to stay alive he made many poor and bad choices, however, majority of his considerable bad choices can be justified by his childhood circumstances. Even though Frank was taught to not steal when he was a child and knew right from wrong, Frank still made bad decisions, but can be looked upon differently considering his poor childhood that stayed the same up until his adulthood since, Frank was raised in poverty,ranked in lower class, misinterpreted things and allowed society to influence his actions with only one working class parent who squandered his paycheck in one night for the pint. One day at the park Frank's brother Malachy told stories that their father told them to Freddie which, lead to Frank becoming very upset over. Due to the lack of understanding, Frank took Freddies knowledge of the stories as stealing them and began to fight him. Even though Frank was wrong his ignorance justifies his situation because he did not understand. This is shown in “He was trying to steal my Cuchulain story. Och, now Freddie doesn't care about the Cuchulain story...He’s Jewish. What’s Jewish” (33). This quote proves that fighting with Freddie can be seen as a misinterpretation of the lack of understanding and ignorance that Frank contains because he is so naive and young. Frank does not understand the true definition of stealing which leads his choice of actions to not be in vain just misunderstood. Bad decisions can be interpreted as good depending on a situation. The more or less the details also developed a scale of morality in order to determine how bad or good something is. Thus, in the memoir Angela's Ashes, Frank recalls moments in his life that are difficult to live through and in these situations leave him to make poor choices.
