Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli was born November 25, 1881, in a small town located in northern Italy called Sotto il Monte. As Angelo was completing his education and priesthood, Angelo was drafted into military service and would assist in infantry company until he was promoted to lieutenant and became a military chaplain. After his service as a chaplain in the war, he would be promoted to the priest of Bergamo.
