By being anhedonic, a person is seen as uninterested in things that they would usually found joy in and this is one of the main symptoms for depression. There are some studies that have shown that some animals are in fact anhedonic. These types of behaviours were observed in rodents where they would seem uninterested in food or anything else they would usually gain pleasure from (Irons, 2014). Ferdowsian et al (2011) studied chimpanzee behaviours and found that the chimpanzees met the criteria requirements for depression after experiencing stressful life events (Irons, 2004).
