In recent news, the movie A Dog's Purpose was accused of animal abuse because of a brief clip released shortly before the film of a trainer appearing to force a German Shepard to jump into a rushing tunnel of water and another of the dog nearly drowning. The leaked video created widespread controversy across America and boycotts of the release of the movie. The movie was predicted to gross millions of dollars in it's opening weekend which dwindled by twenty-percent as the scandalous video gained popularity (Kaufman). Especially after the debacle over A Dog's Purpose, the opinion that no animals should be used for entertainment has grown in popularity. There are many businesses and industries today that abuse animals and/or take them out of their natural environment in order to use them for entertainment purposes such as circuses and Sea World's orca shows that should be prohibited; however, the use of domesticated animals in entertainment such as in A Dog's Purpose should be allowed with strict regulations. Often times, society and media only focus on the negative aspects of animal entertainment and forget the mostly positive examples of animal entertainment today. Some people believe that the government should outlaw all use of animals in entertainment, but only the use of wild animals in entertainment should be completely forbidden. The government simply needs to set stricter laws to enforce the positive treatment of animals in entertainment. People should not ignore the issue of animal abuse in our society today because God called humans to have a righteous dominion over all of creation. In Proverbs 12:10, it says, "Whoever is righteous has regard for the life of his beast, but the mercy of the wicked is cruel" (Holy Bible).
