Animal-assisted therapy (AAT) is not limited to any specific person, issue, age, race, therapy, etc. It is offered in a wide variety of settings, such as: nursing homes, rehabilitation centres, developmental centres, acute care, psychiatric centres, and hospices. AAT is currently provided with various health care or human service professionals. Pets are used as companions in own homes or assisted living. They are also used in institutions where the animals help to stimulate the environment and be a companion.
