In the novel, Animal Farm, a story based in England in the 1900's is about animals that override the Manor Farm run by cruel human workers and their leader, Mr. Jones. Although, the communist community the animals created, suddenly bent into a totalitarian society. Napoleon, the leader out of the pigs took over the farm and became the ruler even though he told lies and broke most of the seven farm rules. Nevertheless, this book holds a lot of meanings, one of them that was quoted by George Santayana, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” This quote relates to Animal Farm because the pigs forgot about their past errors so they began to slowly turn the farm into a nightmare. Proof of these actions is on page 91, chapter 8, “...some of the animals remembered -or thought they remembered- that the Sixth Commandment decreed 'No animal shall kill any other animal.' And though no one cared to mention it in the hearing of the pigs or the dogs, it was felt that the killings which had taken place did not square with this." This links to an older quote in the book that was also one of the main focuses, “... All the habits of Man are evil. And, above all, no animal must ever tyrannise over his own kind...” (Chapter 1, page 11). Napoleon obviously disregarded this agreement because he certainly did tyrannize over his own kind. Nonetheless, my final quote concluding my thoughts on Animal Farm is one from Voltaire: “In general, the art of government consists in taking as much money as possible from one class of people to give it to the
