First, animal research should be prolonged, for it has contributed to many life-saving cures. For instance, in the pro article, it states, “The California biomedical research states that nearly every medical breakthrough in the last 100 years has resulted directly from research using animals. “ In other words, majority of the medical advancements in the last century were the direct result of animal testing/ research. This exemplifies that the use of animal research has improved the understanding of many diseases allowing scientists to generate cures. For example, scientists have learned a great deal about breast cancer due to animal research. As proof, in the pro article, it states, “ Animal testing has also been instrumental in saving endangered species from extinction.” In other words, animal testing/ research has been useful in the revival of several endangered species. Animal testing has largely improved the researchers’ understanding of animals, thus benefiting them. For example, as a result of scientific animal research, scientists can finally breed animals in captivity. This benefits endangered animals because the can be efficiently be repopulated while under protection by an animal sanctuary. Due to this, animals will no longer be at the risk of extinction, so it will be safe enough to release them into the wild. In addition, if there was a lack of animal testing, then there would be millions of animal deaths due to disease. To be specific, the deadly STI (sexually transmitted infection), Chlamydia, is existent in 90% of Australian koalas. Chlamydia is a bacterial infection that is found in both male and female koalas; it causes blindness and infertility. Additionally, this infection impairs the functionality of Koala’s immune system, in turn, killing them. Koalas are an endangered species and were at a high risk of extinction.
