Animal Testing Research Paper

Did you know that 19,500,000 animals are killed each year for animal experimentation? Animal testing is one of the highest leading causes of animal death. Many people don’t think about how their makeup product or lotion doesn’t cause skin reactions. The products are first used in a number of tests on a number of animals to make it safe for human use. These tests led to harming a handful of helpless animals just for the benefit of one product for humans. Animals are put under microscopes to try and figure out diseases that are contracted by humans. Animals are being killed in research laboratories every day for no reason and no benefit. People always talk about how awful cruelty to animals is, but they don’t realize that they could be using products that are the result of animal cruelty. There are organizations that are designed to protect animals from cruelty, but there is nothing for animal cruelty when caused by research. There are no laws in effect protecting animals from abuse while in the use of research. Animals used in research suffer some of the worst animal cruelty seen before. Most animals die by the endpoint of research. The few lucky enough to survive throughout the tests are more than likely killed afterward (Groff 15). The number of animals killed in the use of research is one of the highest cause of death in animals recorded. Animals are forced to endure pain such as force to ingest deadly substances, contaminated with diseases, undergo chemical reactions, and so much more. The majority end result of animals used in research is death. “No laws protect animals from being subjected to protocols that include severe physical and psychological pain and suffering once the research is approved by in-house institutional committees” (Groff 15). There are laws protecting animals from people harming them out in the world, but when animals are placed in a building that states the organism being used for research there is nothing protecting them from what is done to them behind closed doors. People like to compare animals to humans all the time. Humans and animals are both living and mammals, but that doesn’t mean that they have anything further alike. In animal models, there is an insufficient similarity with a human disease to be of any benefit. If there is any technology that could help with this confusion, it hasn’t been invented. No one can model exactly what is going on with a disease in a human’s body into an animal’s structure. The similarities between humans and animals is a very small amount of information. This causes problems when trying to make human-like situations happen in animals. “Significant limitations exist in the model’s ability to faithfully mirror the complex process of human carcinogenesis” (Akhtar 410). When building a disease in an animal, researchers find significant differences between what the disease does to a human body. Many successful results in animals turn out to malfunction when used by humans. Due to the different genetic make-up of test subjects and humans, the medication acts differently in two organisms. “More than 90% of medicines found to be safe and effective in animal tests fail to help humans” (Groff 15). The animals are being put through experiments, when the results found are ineffective in humans. A large amount of time and money put into one experimentation for it to be unsuccessful in the world.
