In the beginning of the story, a man and a woman (Jig) sit down outside of the station and the two decided to try a new drink, which is Anis Del Toro with water. Story took place in on Railway Station in Spain. When the girl (Jig) said about the drink “everything tastes of licorice. Especially all the things you’ve waited so long for, like absinthe.” (pg. 175, 25-27) it’s a metaphor which referring that all he (man) ever think about is self-preserved or self-centered. All he wants to do is have fun and freedom with her not care about the burden she bears. The woman (jig) looked at the picture of the mountain said “They look like a white elephant” which reminded her of that hill in the distance of “white elephant.” When she said “they’re lovely…show more content… The man is anxious tried to get the girl (Jig) to get an abortion by saying this “it’s really awfully simple operation. It’s not really an operation at all.” The man just thinks it’s very simple operation to do it, but not knowing or realizing as the girl (Jig) did. This is the decision Jig have to decide it if it’s the right decision to make because the girl (Jig) is thinking about the future that maybe it’s not their time to be like they were before. But I know it’s perfectly simple.” (pg. 176, 55-56) He is using the tone with mind twisted to convince her to change her mind to do it. Even though, he really wants her to do it. She wants to do it just to make him happy, but in her mind, she worry that her relationship with him would not be the same as before.
