Wars, exploration, and declaring our independence, all of these things happened in the Colonial/Puritan time period. Countless amounts of the things that they did during this time period are still influencing our world today. Colonial/Puritan, has four distinct characteristics: leadership, dedication, religious, and education. This time period covers years 1492 through 1800. Three main historical events that happened during those years were the American Revolutionary War, “The American Revolutionary War (1775-1783), also known as the American War of Independence, was a war between the Kingdom of Great Britain and thirteen British colonies on the North American continent.” (“American Revolutionary War”), Christopher Columbus, “Explorer and navigator Christopher Columbus was born in 1451 in the Republic of Genoa, Italy. “We all have dreams. But in order to make dreams come into reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline, and effort.” (Owen). If individuals have dedication in their lives they will be able to accomplish anything they want. An author from the Puritan time period is Anne Bradstreet. “Although Bradstreet had eight children between the years 1633 and 1652, which meant that her domestic responsibilities were extremely demanding, she wrote poetry which expressed her commitment to the craft of writing. In addition, her work reflects the religious and emotional conflicts she experienced as a woman writer and as a Puritan” (Martin). Anne Bradstreet was a very dedicated writer, with eight children she still found time to express her commitment to writing.
