Anti-Abortion Extremist Group The Army of God was formed following the Supreme Court’s decision in the 1973 Roe v. Wade to legalize abortion to protect what many followers felt as the ultimate betrayal of God’s will.
The Supreme Court decision of Roe v. Wade that legalized abortion instantly became the catalyst that formed anti-abortion groups. The anti-abortion movement takes several forms, where most are peaceful. However picketing abortion clinics where soon joined by more extreme methods of opposition largely based on violent and terrorism. The impact of radical anti-abortion groups ended up being counter-productive to the entire pro-life movement and these acts of terrorism alienated the larger movement.
In 1982 the Army of God was tied to anti-abortion activity when three kidnapped an abortion doctor and his wife in Granite City, Illinois. After the kidnapping law enforcement were not sure how seriously to take the army of god. Throughout the 1980’s scattered events were tied to the army of god activity until the letters AOG were left at the scene of a clinic attacked.

Manty of the extremists who ended up in jail and it became their commonality that banded them as army of god. Confessed Killer James Kopp another anti-abortionist developed the heart of the extremist approach that the army of God currently utilizes. Their tactics and approach has been their way of fighting ever since.
The Army of God followers are not concerned with their personal economic or social status being affected, but they see legalized abortion as disregarding their personal value
