Many wonder why it took so long for women to gain rights, vote, and be noticed or recognized in history. In Antigone, by Sophocles, Antigone broods with anger over Creon’s decision to prohibit her from burying her brother. She is unable to decide whether to follow the law and Creon’s rule, or to do what is right and follow her intuition. The play suggests women are weak, not worthy, and unable to rule.
The play contends around the idea that women are weak in all aspects and have no power in society.
