Antigone Reflective thought prompts

The Greek legend Antigone, the main character Antigone foils the characteristics and values with her sister Ismene. According to some scholars, Antigone represents individual freedom while Ismene symbolizes prudence and reason; while others exclaim that Antigone symbolizes instinct, and Ismene represents naive obedience to authority. There are many different ways to interpret each of the response to a given situation for both Antigone and Ismene in their brother's death and burial. To each of the points given towards the role played by the two characters, there are valid extents to each weakness and strength. Scholars who analyzed Antigone’s representation of individual freedom is logically supported by the reactions and her steadfast traits she has shown within both her words and actions. More specifically, her audacity to step up right away without any consideration or harm questioned some of the readers if is she fully understands her own customs and Creon’s authority. But at the same time, Antigone’s boldness had made a change towards Creon and the ways to rule his people which exemplifies reasonable freedom she took in as a responsibility. Ismene who showed symbolism of prudence and reason has a high extent of its validity because that is what most people living under a dictatorship would respond. Yet, it did revealed her lack of confidence and standing up for what she believes and opinions on justice.
As much as there are strengths, the weaknesses balances each of the characters in both positive and a negative view on its
