Liam Nelson Antoine Robidoux 6th Period Antoine Robidoux was born in Florissant, Missouri, on September 24, 1794. He and his family were of French-Canadian decent. Antoine had four brothers whose father was Joseph Rubidoux, Sr. Antoine Robidoux was a fur trapper and trader in the southwest. He got along well with other trappers and traders. He set up trading posts in the Uinta Mountains of Utah and along the Gunnison River. He did so when he developed his own trade route. While along the Gunnison River, he built Fort Uncompahgre. Years later, Indians, unfortunately, destroyed that fort. Antoine helped publicize the merits of settling in California. He also became friends with sever bands of Utes.
