1. Explain the role of river valleys in the development of civilizations. Name at least two river valleys as examples. (10 points)

River valleys played a huge part in the development of civilizations. The river valleys helped fertile the soil. When the soil is fertile more crops can grow, and when more crops grow so does the population. With more crops growing the water needed to stay under control so they made an irrigation system. The irrigation system kept the water under control and helped the water to be evenly distributed. Two river valleys that have helped with the development of civilizations are the Nile and Indus Rivers.

2. How do the Himalayas affect culture and climate? (5 points)
The Himalayas affect culture and climate in many ways. One way that the Himalayas affects culture is it blocks travel. Travel is a huge part in culture because it can bring new ideas and traditions. One way that the Himalayas affects climate is that it blocks the wind which makes it very hot and dry.

The factors that are preventing industrialization in Africa are the high poverty rates, poor infrastructure, poor political planning. High poverty rates means that not many people have jobs in Africa which can also mean that not many people can afford to go to school and get an education. The lack of education also mean that there are not many people trained in technical and non-technical fields. Poor infrastructure means that businesses will not be able to grow. Poor political planning can also lead to corruption. These are all factors preventing industrialization in Africa.
