Summer Assignment
Thank you for signing up for Advanced Placement Modern European History. “Modern Europe” actually begins with the Renaissance (1350-1750), which is our first unit, but it is important for you to understand the events and people leading up to that era. This assignment, then, will focus your attention on the events in the Classical and Medieval eras that contributed to the rebirth of culture in Europe.
Write a 4-5 page paper that answers the following questions: 1. How did the events of the Classical Era of Greece and Rome set the stage for the Renaissance? In your answer, consider government, philosophy, society and religion.
2. What challenges did the Europeans face when attempting to incorporate these rediscovered ideas into their world?
**If you have questions or need help, you may e-mail me over the summer. You can also send me rough drafts as Word attachments that I will read, critique, and send back to you. (But don’t send me anything after August 30)
