Big businesses in the United States in this time period were very influential upon all of the walks of life. Some of the walks of life that were impacted the most upon these corporations were: the economy, politics, and the daily american life. This changed the very fabric of the United States (much to George Washington’s dismay), we went from an economically based farming country, to one of the most industrialized countries in the world. The average american life at this time was to go to work come home, then sleep. No time to do anything between just to work all your life and provide enough for your family to get by. In Document A the graph shows three statistics: Food prices, Fuel and lighting prices, and Cost of living index. While this graph shows significant declines in prices of all three of those statistics, this is due to the increase of business in the United States. This impacts the daily life of Americans in the United States by reducing costs of month to month living. The cost of living in the year 1870 is roughly valued at 90, but in the year 1899 it reduced to a value of about 65. Document C is a political cartoon that depicted "Bosses of the Senate" and has senate members represented as smaller people, dominated by the bigger people which are the trusts of different companies, they are looking over the senate members, which makes me see the trusts as the people who control them, who they are afraid of. Not everyone was afraid of these people, in Document E the populist platform fights back, and says “We pledge ourselves that if given power we will labor to correct these evils.” The populist party wants government to be for the people, and feels the people are not being fairly treated and will fight for their
