During the 20th century, labor unions were constructed by workers dedicated to protect and further their rights and interests. Due to the circumstances that caused the workers to interfere with the free market such as the poor treatment they received, horrific working conditions, and low income benefits are the reasons that indicate why the free market was destroyed.
Social Darwinism also known as “survival of the fittest/richest” played a prominent role during the 20th century. Based on this concept, labor unions were formed due to the fact that the employees attained better treatment than the workers (Doc A). This reveals a dichotomy within the free market. Employees and workers differentiated according to the treatment and as a result the workers would not attend their jobs. This concept contributes to the effect of monopolies within the free market (Doc E). Business owners were able to price their products at any price they would desire. This impacted the free market massively because when these owners saw competition, they would either raise or lower their prices to achieve doing so. Thus, this determines their success. Labor unions were anti because they received low incomes in return for their long working hours. Since the government had no say, legally it was allowed. As a result, labor unions destroyed the free market to make a difference by bringing attention to this inequity to benefit themselves positively.
Overall, the free market was destroyed by labor unions due to monopolies, their incomes, poor working conditions, and inequitable treatment. For these reasons, labor unions advocated for greater positive outcomes to withdraw these circumstances.
