Ancient Sumer and Indus were similar in many ways. One way there similar is from there farming. Ancient Sumer and Indus both raised animals for food. They also grew wheat and barley. Which means they both have farming. Irrigation systems were used for farming to give crops enough water but not to much. Sumerians and the Indus people had fertile soil, river valleys, river floods, and good farm land for farming. There was river valleys in both which created river floods which created fertile soil. Sumer and Indus are also similar because of their government.The Sumerians and the Indus people had a very strong system of government. Each city has a king who makes laws, they had scribes that records people records, and people that pay taxes. The governments have a …show more content…
Even though these civilizations were similar, they also had many difference. One difference that Sumer has and Indus doesn’t is cuneiform. Cuneiform is a wedge shaped system of writing. This helped with recording taxes, trade, and payments. Sumer also traded and transported barley, wheat, dates, and cloth. They used a system called bartering. Bartering is a trading system in which people exchange goods directly, not using money. A big thing in Sumer was there religion. They used religion to please their gods with growing crops, and settling disputes. In Sumer they had ziggurats. Ziggurats are a pyramid like tower that has steps so the gods could get inside. On the top of the ziggurat was a shrine rested on the tip of the pyramid. They also held religious ceremonies. There are two kinds, one has music and the other one is about human sacrifice. Sumer has life-like statues that were built around the city-state. The statues were of people praying and looking up to the sky to resemble them praying to their gods. The first city-state in the world was Sumer and the first city in Sumer was Uruk.The population of Sumer was more than 40,000 people! Other cities in Sumer were Ur, Lagash,
