Numerous people including reformers have worked to achieve social, political, and economic change in the United States. There were two prime goals that reformers wanted to achieve in the late 19th and early 20th century. Reformers used numerous methods to achieve their goals and bring about many positive changes that still affect us today.

One main goal of reformers in the late 19th and early 20th century was to protect the individual workers rights (Doc 5). The other prime goal of reformers like the Progressive Party was to improve working conditions (Doc 5). One major method was by Jacob Riis and how he photographed the poor living condition of people (Document 2). This was an extremely effective method since it actually physically let the people see how terrible living conditions were instead of just hearing about it. Another major method that reformers used was by book or newspaper/articles. This was the main way that people had gotten information and this was widely used by reformers like John Muir (Document 3). As previously stated, many people used the newspaper and articles like the muckrakers. These people had exposed all of the problems that were created from industrialization and a few example Ida Tarbell and Jacob Sinclair which exposed the corruption of big businesses. These were two methods used by reformers to spread information and help bring change in society.

Reformers had numerous goals in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s which included a lot of positive changes for workers and people in general. Many social, economic and political problems were tackled and resolved because of these reformers. They also had to transport information and persuade the general public. They did this through the newspaper and books. Some even did it by photography like Jacob Riis and the poor living conditions of some people. These were some examples of what reformers wanted and his they achieved their
