“The Eagle has landed” Apollo 11 was one of the most historic event to happen in American history, one of the only events that will always be in history books for hundreds and hundreds of years to come. The main objective of the Apollo 11 mission was to reach a goal of doing an orbit 114 by 116 miles, also to send a crew to the moon and back, which was set by president J.F.K back in May 25th 1961. The Apollo 11 crew included the famous Neil A. Armstrong, the commander, Buzz Aldrin, the lunar module pilot, and the not so famous Michael Collins, he was the command module pilot. Just like DChudwin recollects what was happening in their life when this historic event was going on, stating that “In July 1969 I was a sophomore at the University of Michigan and a reporter for the Michigan Daily” (DChudwin 1) later explaining how he was only 19 at the time of the launch while being the youngest of three thousand journalists that were cedentailed for Apollo 11. Some like Delta7 chiming in saying how she was only nine, but also living in Italy at the time of the launch. She remembered listening to a play-by-play done by Walter Cronkite, saying how she would look at the moon thinking how awesome it was to think that there are humans on the moon. Some personal accounts included people being too young to comprehend what was happening but knowing their exact age they were when this event happened. Another memory someone shared was them being eleven being woken up by their father, “I live in the UK and was 7 at the time. My father woke me up at three am to watch them on there first EVA” (rjb1elec 1). Even people in Australia were involved, “I was a young (very) school child in preps grade in Australia at the time (about 5 years old). My class teacher was a Mrs Collins, and we children in our youthful naivety all thought it was her husband who was on the flight. I remember she played up to it to amuse us.” (golddog 1). Everyone's accounts just shows how no matter where anyone lived during this time, they were all affected positively by this. While everyone was enjoying the launch with friends, family, or coworkers, at least they didn’t have to pay for the programme. The cost of the launch was around $25.4 billion dollars, in today’s money that would be $150 billion dollars to fund this
