When there has been some type of incident the call is received by the dispatch, the date, time and type of call it was is documented. When enroute to the scene of the incident the weather conditions, route traveled and the time it took to arrive on the scene should also be documented. The first thing that the responding officers should do is secure the crime scene. This can be done by taping off the whole area to include the parking lot and gas pumps. This is done to maintain the integrity of the evidence and prevent possible contamination and make sure everyone at the scene is safe. Some of the porous items found are the lottery ticket which was found on the counter, smeared print on it, the ripped carton of cigarettes on the floor in front of the counter, the spilled cigar box of cash which was found on the floor next to the deceased, and a fresh cigarette butt that was only half-smoked on the ground outside of the store located in the parking lot. One way of processing all of the porous items is to use Ninhydrin because it reacts to the amino acids present in the latent prints. Clothing and all personal items will be processed for prints. Since they may belong to the deceased, fingerprints will be taken for comparison. Fingerprints on a deceased body may be difficult to recover that is why the iodine-naphthoflavone techniques is found to produce the most consistent results when the prints on are fresh. A body at 30 Celsius will produce quality ridge detail once the cyanoacrylate fuming and TEC dye staining. Witnesses should be kept separate so as they do not collaborate. Each witness should be interviewed by federal, state, or local officials. Each witness will also be tested for gunshot residue and submission of their fingerprints in order to eliminate them as a suspect. Each witness will also write a full statement on what they saw. Investigators create a line of question for the interview. Once each witness is interviewed, if there is any information resulting in admission of an offense, all questioning must stop and the individual will immediately be advised of the Fifth Amendment
