Thomas Aquinas and Catherine of Siena help give a definition to the concept of faith as known today. Faith is defined as the fullness of reason; that is the fullness of knowable, rational, and content. Faith is God’s very knowledge of all things including all the saints and angels. Faith is hard to understand and comprehend, because one’s current grasp of reason. The Catholic Tradition defines tradition as an argument extended through time in which certain fundamental agreements are defined and redefined. Since faith is part of the Catholic Tradition the definition of faith shall be redefined as time goes on. Thomas Aquinas and Catherine of Siena proves this argument to be true by defining and redefining the aspect of faith in their teachings.

Mysticism is a new way of being, living, and seeing that seeks the fullness in mystery. Catherine defines the demands of faith as horizontal vs vertical dimensions this means, a person must love God and their brothers and sister. In the book Why the Mystics Matter Now by Frederick Bauerschmidt in the section on Catherine of Siena it talks about horizontal vs vertical dimensions by saying “those who say, I love God, and hate their brothers or sisters, are liars; for those who do not love a brother or sister whom they have seen, cannot love God whom they have not seen. The commandment we have from him is this: those who love God must love their brothers and sisters also” (1 John 4:20-21)1. Catherine of Siena redefines faith as a way for a person to get closer with the world. A person must love God and all the things that God has created including our
