In the novel Jane Eyre by, Charlotte Brontë the author uses different archetypes and motifs throughout the entire story. In the novel Jane grew up with her aunt and cousins because her parents died. She was treated very badly because the family did not want to give Jane any inheritance money. Jane was eventually sent away to Lowood because of things that happened at her aunt’s house. Miss. Temple, who taught at the school, acted as a mother figure to Jane. Jane eventually graduates from Lowood, teaches at Lowood, and then becomes a governess. Jane worlds as a governess for Mr.Rochester, who she eventually falls in love with. Using motifs and archetypes Bronte gives the reader a better understanding of the text, which helps the reader analyze her writing. One way motif is used throughout this story is through the color red. Bronte uses the color red to describe many emotions. One emotion the color red would display is fear . If Jane would misbehave she was punished in the red room. The red room was where Mr. Reed (Jane’s uncle) died. On page twenty-five when Jane says, “I began to recall what I had heard of dead men, troubled in their graves by the violation of their last wishes, revisiting the earth to punish the perjured and avenge the …show more content…
Without motifs or archetypes the reader would not be able to get a deeper understanding of what is happening in the book. Brontë's use of motifs and archetypes are nothing short of brilliant. The use of both motifs and archetypes makes the story have a deeper meaning than just what is written in the text. If the reader fully absorbed ones-self into this book and read between the lines one would be able to appreciate the use of motifs as well as archetypes.
