From a Jungian perspective, the hero of The Iliad would be Hector. Jungian criticism specializes in viewing the archetypes present in literature. A clear example of the archetypical hero shown in Hector is best exemplified by a quote from his wife, Andromache. She states, “‘...for before then head to heel this city will be sacked, for you, its defender, are gone, you who guarded the city, and the grave wives, and the innocent children…’” (Homer 386).
