The battle between Heaven vs. Hell is closely related to the battle of good vs.evil.
Heaven represents the all encompassing good, and Hell represents the ultimate evil.
Humanity has traditionally associated parts of the universe not accessible to it, with the dwelling places of the primordial forces that govern its world. The skies and mountaintops house our gods; the bowels of the earth contain the diabolic forces that inhabit our universe. In Nino Ricci’s novel,

, there is a lot of conflict and drama, that bring out the evil in some and the good in others. Where there is good and evil, there is the battle between Heaven and Hell. In the novel, even though Cristina is in the wrong for being unfaithful to her husband overseas, herself and Vittorio would still be considered the good, that represents Heaven. The other people of Valle del Sol would be the evil, representing Hell.

would be the one representing Heaven because he’s the one trying to save Vatican
City from total obliteration. The Illuminati would represent Hell because their martyring of the likely candidates for Pope and their plans of destroying Vatican City with a bomb clearly are not for the greater good.
