Holes is a novel written by Louis Sachar and is about a young man name Stanley Yelnats who's family is cursed by his great-great grandfather who failed to take orders from madame Zeroni. Stanley is unreasonably sentenced by the judge and has a choice of going to jail or to Camp Green Lake. Because he is from a poor family and has never been to camp, he chooses Camp Green Lake. He is sent to Camp Green Lake a place where juveniles go when they commit crimes which is nothing like the camp he expected and is forced to dig holes not knowing that he's digging to find hidden treasure within the lake.Stanley eventually realizes that they are digging these holes because the Warden is searching for something. The first Juvenile detention center goes way back in New York of 1824. That’s when the first detention center was created. These centers can be very dangerous at times and even in some conditions will have you exiting in a casket or body bag. This bad treatment can come from the workers or the other juveniles who bully each other inside the center. In Holes, Stanley enters Camp Green Lake and some of the boys from the camp start to mess with him in a way of bullying him. There is a lot of bullying in camp Green Lake but in mostly comes from adults behavior. The adults are expected to act more mature and be role models for children especially if they are trying to rehabilitate children. For example Mr. Pendanski is very harsh to Zero and makes comments about how unintelligent he is when really, he is suppose to be there to help motivate the boys to reshape their lives.
