Both articles, “The secret life of Tiger Woods”, by Wright Thompson and “Are parents ruining youth sports? Fewer kids play amid pressure.” by Michael S. Rosenwald talk about the sacrifices made to play sports and to be good at them. In the article “The secret life of Tiger Woods”, by Wright Thompson he talks about the sacrifices that Tiger Woods has had to make to become a famous golfer and what his lifestyle is like with being a famous golfer. Where, the article, “Are parents ruining youth sports? Fewer kids play amid pressure”, by Michael S. Rosenwald talks about the sacrifices the parents made for their kids to play these sports but also what they get out of it. In both articles there are major sacrifices made just for a sport that I do not believe are worth it just to be an “elite athlete”. In the article “The secret life of Tiger Woods”, by Wright Thompson, Thompson explains how Tiger’s life was with his father, Earl, and what his life was after his father had died. Tiger has sacrificed his own body to the numerous amounts of injuries he has had that might have almost ended his golf career just for golf. The kids that are playing these sports for fun are being hurt because the adults are more focused on elite travel team. Parents and kids are also risking getting major injuries, and the parents are only in it for the bragging rights. This is shown in the text when it is explained, “You get one parent who says, I traveled to Tennessee for a tournament. Another says, Well I flew to California. And then, Oh my son is going to Puerto Rico” (Rosenwald 2-3). There are so many sacrifices like spending all of this money to have there kids travel to these tournaments, because maybe they will make it to the pro’s, which is not always going to
