Motherhood is no longer as straightforward as it once was, when mother-work was clearly defined as nurturing, caring for, cooking and other domestic labor for their children. Now for most mothers there is pressure to maintain a work and home life balance and expectations causing anxiety in mother’s ability at motherhood. However, in Mihal Greeners blog, “Are they the World’s most relaxed moms?”, she discusses how mothers in the Netherlands are able to keep the work and home life balance without subjecting to the pressures which narrowly exist within their culture. Greener’s blog is intended for mothers in westernized countries or more specifically the United States. It is implicit through her reference of characteristics of the U.S. culture to reflect on what we could learn from the Dutch. While the blog is on the Washington Post her targeted audience could be broader than the one mentioned, however perhaps only those in search of parenting advice or subscribe to the parenting blogs would be aware of it. However, based on the topics within the parenting subsection ranging from private kindergarten to sending their children to college, it could be implied that their targets are middle to upper middle class families. An individual has to have the means to put their children in private kindergarten and send them to college. As a result of fathers not being mentioned, makes it difficult to assess if the mothers Mihal mentions are single parents or if they have significant other male or female counterparts as well. Mihal does not make a distinct link to racial or ethnic biases either. Perhaps the omission could have been to appeal to a broader range of audience members. In addition, the issues discussed in the blog could be felt by all ethnic and racial
