Every day atrocities are done in the world along with deeds we are quick to declare good. What really makes something good, though? If you killed 75 people to save 100 would that be called good? Throughout history, there is countless times where we have been quick to condemn one thing in favor of something else masked with some shining, righteous purpose; whether it be religion, peace, birthright, or even equality, blood is spilled to get to that higher understanding. If that's the case, why is it wrong when one person does the same thing with different wording? Many people assume good and evil are like oil and water, but in all reality they are almost indistinguishable. Hitler saved Germany. That is correct, the world wide hated fascist that killed 8 million people saved Germany. While Hitler was in power; he created a rapidly growing economy in a time when unemployment was at an all-time high, he was for animal rights and against experimenting on them, was for traditional family values, raised national pride and morale to unbelievable heights, tried finding eco-friendly technologies, and even eradicated crime while improving health and mortality rates. You will never hear any of this in school however, you will simply be told that the man was the reincarnation of evil that brought oppression everywhere he breathed. I mention this because no one on this planet is 100% evil, it is physically impossible no matter how bad they are. Two things couldn't be more clear about humanity; we are inherently evil, and we have to make the mental decision to do good. It is almost painful saying a man like Hitler had anything redeeming at all, but they exist. So what would of happened if Hitler never rose to power? If the one person recognized as the most hated man on earth never took power, Germany is likely to of fallen to pieces, yet 6-8 million Jews would have been spared. What the world views as morality changes constantly, and war can always be justified by the winners. It comes down to simple ethics; is what you are doing as an individual adding a positive or negative force onto someone's life. This is the basic, primitive principal humans have lived by as long as we know. It's how we came to know that robbing, murder, lying, and all other sins are bad. The interesting thing about this though, is that we can numb that belief, we have the innate ability to justify our actions, even when they would be declared evil. We can turn off that morality when it comes to war, politics, position, science, religion, leadership, or anything else that drives people. It worked in the crusades, it worked in the revolution, it worked in the 1940's, and it works now. Lucky for us, we have a lovely book called the Bible to keep us on track, even when moral
