Born premature, and stricken with polio at a young age, Wilma Glodean Rudolph was probably the least likely individual to be the first American woman to win three gold medals at a single Olympic Games. But, as CYO athlete should, she overcame barriers. Wilma Glodean Rudolph exhibits the ideal CYO athlete's attitude. I feel that Rudolph would be an example of a dedicated hard, working CYO athlete because she overcame the struggles of her past to become the fastest woman of the 1960's.

Wilma was told by a team of highly educated health care professionals that she would never walk again, but like an athlete should she tested the limits and worked to walk again. Wilma was positive through the support of her family and
