Which begs the question are e-cigarettes safe? That answer isn’t as cut and dry as you may think, sure it may be safer but its far from safe. The fact that e-cigarettes does not turn into tar in your lungs as traditional cigarettes does make it safer to the consumer. However, they still contain nicotine, which has highly addictive effects on the body, the effects include an increase in heart rate and blood pressure, as well as it restricts the flow of blood which in turn decreases the amount of oxygen delivered to the brain and heart.
It has been said that e-cigarettes are a useful tool for quitting smoking. But the truth of the matter is that smokers are addicted to nicotine not the cigarette itself, and e-cigarettes can continue to feed into the addiction. But the effects to those around you should make you want to quit. Those using smokeless tobacco must understand that it is not a safer alternative to lighting one up, not to mention spiting all over the place is not appealing to most people. When it comes to e-cigarettes we as a society wont know the adverse health effects that smoking e-cigarettes or vaping for another 10- 15 years and though it may cause people to quit smoking the traditional cigarette it is not a viable alternative.
The effects of smoking not only to the smoker but those around them is the biggest problem that faces us today, if we want to prevent people smoking as adults we must start young with teenagers and young adults which is why there should be a federally mandated ban on smoking in public spaces. If teens and adults can’t smoke in public places it takes out the appeal of smoking altogether, and if others don’t see you smoking they will not want to conform. As a society, we must end the cycle of smoking
