Are Public Colleges Really Safe?
Its Halloween night, you are getting ready to go out and enjoy the night. As you add the finishing touches to your costume, your phone goes off as you receive a message. Expecting it to be from your friend notifying you that they are on their way, you are surprised to discover it’s a text from school warning you of an attempted robbery on campus. You continue getting ready; keeping that information in mind, when your phone goes off again it’s another warning. Two minutes later another update on the incident. Three warnings in a span of 15 minutes, concerned you question if it would be safe to go out that night.
This was the reality for many USF students Halloween night as an attempted robbery took place outside the College of Public Health building. In the past couple of months there have been many incidents at which students lives were at risk. 52 school shootings have taken place so far this year.
