Romeo and Juliet Argumentative Essay Romeo and Juliet is a play that ends in a tragedy written by William Shakespeare that took place in Verona, Italy during the thirteenth or fourteenth century. Romeo and Juliet were two young people from feuding families who fell in love. Their love was so strong that they ended up dying for each other. Many characters could be to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Some of the characters to blame are Romeo, Juliet, and Friar Lawrence. Romeo and Juliet is responsible for their own death. Juliet sees Romeo dead in front of her. “Oh lucky dagger, this is your sheath. Rust there and let me die”(Shakespeare 247). No one told Juliet to kill herself and it was her choice. Friar Lawrence weds the couple without thinking of the future consequences. If the couple weren’t together then it wouldn’t have led him getting the potions. Juliet talks to Friar Lawrence about what she should do with the situation of marrying Paris. “Give it to me! Give it to me. Don’t talk to me of fear”(Shakespeare 199). Some might say that Mercutio is responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet but that’s not true. Mercutio may have made Romeo go to the ball to check out other women. Mercutio has no control over the actions and choices he made about Juliet. Mercutio died and Romeo went to avenge him. Mercutio is dead and has no control over what Romeo does while he is dead.
