The United States has a pervasive gun culture stemming from the second Amendment in the Constitution which states that “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” (Primary Sources: The Bill of Rights, 1). There has always been a problematic controversial that developed recently ever since the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas HIgh school in Florida. This school shooting occurred on February 14, 2018 and has left many people in devastation situations. Most of the gun control debates still go back to the second amendment, which briefly demonstrates, “The Right to Bear Arm.” The constitution was written way back in 1787 where there technology was not heavily used on weapons as for today. In this case, if gun control was regulated in the United States, our students would be protecting against school mass shootings. Therefore, although some may argue that it is their right to bear arms, less gun ownership leads to less shootings.
Although some may argue that the second amendment gives them the right to have ownership of a gun, it is shown that states who have introduced gun control, like Japan, have not had a single shooting after (Gonzalez, 2). As the second amendment notes, “The right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed,” (Primary Sources: The Bill of Rights, 1). In other words, the second amendment protects citizens from bearing arms. However, it does not specify the gun technology implemented today. In fact, people use this second amendment as an excuse to abuse our gun freedom. We have the freedom to bear arms, but this amendment was made when shootings were nonexistent and well before
