Young boys growing up found it thrilling and fun to play with guns and pretend they were in the army. They wanted to be in the army because it looked fun. It was a dream of lots of little boys to join the army when they grew up and fight for their country. That is how it was back in the late 1800’s to early 1900’s, young men joined the army and it was considered noble to fight for your countries freedom. Without photos and videos showing us what war was really like, there was a romanticized view of war where people thought it was nice and clean. But over the years as technology improved to show clean photos and videos of war it left nothing to the imagination. There is nothing fun about war. This caused a stir between Americans and their soldiers. At first it was a great thing to join and serve your country to fight for our freedoms, because the people could only imagine the harsh reality of war. Not seeing bullets going through people cleanly, with no red blood, no one innocent dying, and picturing this whole thing as being brave was something to be proud of. But, when you could see war almost live at night on your television and in color, the average citizens were not big fans of anyone who joined the army. Sixty years earlier the soldiers were praised for what they were doing, not criticized for it. Without the advancement of technology people would not be aware of the true reality of war and how violent and gruesome it really is.
The truth is war has always been a bad thing throughout history but also a necessary act when done for the right reasons. We hoped that there was something noble about it and the soldiers who fought, but when we saw it for its reality, we saw it for exactly what we really knew it was. We couldn’t deny it anyone or paint a pretty picture because the color pictures are right in front of us. War is an ugly thing that comes with a high price but the soldiers who choose to fight should never go unrecognized for their service and
