Some people may say that cheerleading is not a sport. Some people say that it is a sport. Everyone has different opinions about cheerleading being considered a sport so I wanted to find out if it actually is a sport since it means so much to me. To begin, I thought I would throw the definition of a real sport out there. A sports definition is that it must be a physical activity that involves propelling mass through space or overcoming the resistance of mass. That describes stunting on the dot. You have to throw girls up in the air which is definitely a physical activity and overcoming the resistance of mass! Cheerleaders practice just as much as basketball or baseball players do. There’s so many cheers, timeouts, floor cheers, and stunts that you have to learn in a short amount of time. Cheerleaders also don’t get breaks. They cheer the whole game and if they call a timeout, they don’t get to sit down like the basketball players. They go out onto the floor and do more cheers for the crowds enjoyment. Some people think that cheerleading isn’t a sport because they think that cheerleaders are just snobby girls who yell at the crowd and look happy all the time. That’s not it at all. Most cheerleaders are the ones who get good grades, are nice to everyone, and have a good attitude about everything. Some of the best cheerleaders maybe aren’t the best at actually doing the cheers, but they show good attitudes towards everyone and have good grades. People think that cheerleading doesn’t take time and effort or many practices, but it does. Cheerleading may not look like one of the world's hardest sport or anything but it takes a lot more effort and agility than most people think.
