The twenty first centuries U.S. Military, CIA, and other government agencies began using new methods of torture after the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Centers in New York City. Torture has been used since the medieval times and has changed drastically throughout history to create controversy between political groups, religious groups, and the American people. The definitions of torture vary from site to site, but also from opinion to opinion. According to the Webster Dictionary, torture is defined as the act of causing severe physical pain as a form of punishment or as a way to force someone to do or say something (Webster Dictionary, 2016). First, mentally or physically torturing someone is protecting American lives and saving millions of people rather than one. The more information CIA officials and the government can get, is better for the United States as a whole because harmful actions may be getting prevented. Also, one in three people of nine different countries agree with the use of torture if it is saving the lives of innocent people (Is Torture Ever Justified?, 2007). For people that do agree with the use of torture, there are multiple reasons. Terrorist groups from other countries have been torturing innocent American people or even murdering them for no reason. Another reason is because I think any person would want to live the rest of his life, rather than being killed in an attack. For example, the Ticking Bomb Theory makes one think about torture in a way that a person would not typically expect. Overall, the use of torture is logical to many Americans and should be carried out correctly and effectively when
