Go to your sink, get a glass of water. Go to the store and buy a bottle. A difference may not always be noticeable by taste, but there are multiple differences. An argument they may never be resolved, which is better? A simple bottle of water has created a job, accessible water to those in need during a disaster, or portable to those on the go. There are multiple different companies that produce packages bottled water. That creates thousands of jobs, something that is hard for some to find. According to IBWA’s website “Companies that manufacture, distribute and sell bottled water products employed about 137,000 Americans, paying them $6.3 billion in wages and benefits.” Many Americans struggle to find a decent job without schooling, bottled water companies make that possible. “Bottled water is fully portable, and thus versatile.”, a point Fager makes in his essay. Whether you’re a full-time student, on the go mom water will always be necessary. Bottled water is also more portable to the under developed countries across the globe. Many of the under developed countries don’t have clean water resources, the portability of bottled water eliminates that problem. Bottled water eliminates first world rush problems and the real-world problem.
One argument that can be made against bottled water is that it is no healthier than tap water. But are the old under-ground pipes that tap water runs through as clean as they should be. Bottled water is filtered and sealed until opened. Old pipes can contain city toxins and high levels of lead. “…bottled water is easier to identify for recall.” (Fager). If you want to “recall” tap water you would have to shut down all water lines in that location. With bottled water, you just have to stop selling that
