There have been many changes that have happened to the state of Texas that most people seem to not mind, such as the implementation of the campus carry law. One of the reasons that people agree with this new decision is for self-defense. It is very difficult for me to agree to this new change because I see this law as an opportunity for people, who may not be certified to carry guns, to bring them to college campuses as well as the fear that if a campus-carry person were to be emotionally unstable, regardless of whether they are diagnosed with some type of psychological disorder or not, they will have the ability to shoot someone.

However, according to Defilippis and Hughes' article, "An FBI report detailing 160 active shooting incidents from 2000-2013 found that only one incident was stopped by a concealed carry permit holder, and he happened to be a Marine...By comparison, 21 active shooters were stopped by unarmed citizens...In several cases, a good guy with a gun has attempted to intervene and either been killed, injured, or nearly shot the wrong person." Just imagining how professors might treat a student licensed to carry a gun, the student could easily pass a class or professors would altogether switch to online classes and abandon teaching face to face.

Although campus carry has already been set for implementation this coming August, I don't feel safe knowing those holding a license can bring their gun to school. Guns should not be placed in the hands of students who are constantly stressing over exams and grades. In conclusion, I don't agree with the implementation of campus carry because people who are not certified to carry guns could take advantage of this law to commit crimes such as rape as well as the fear of having to be careful about how I act towards somebody who could possibly shoot
