The idea being proposed is designer babies. This is a reproductive science that could possibly transform the genetic traits into artificial traits. The parents of a child can basically customize certain things about their babies’’. They would be able to customize things such as their gender, height, hair, and eye color. The issue is that people believe that the way the baby is genetically made is how it should be. But other people think that the parents should be able to customize the features if they know that there are going to be health issues, or if they know something is going to cause them harm in the long run.
The proposal that side A makes is that parents shouldn’t be able to customize their babies. Marc D.Guerra discusses the book that Leon R. Kass wrote. As Kass explains in the book, “By pursuing physical health as the greatest of human goods, we will inevitably end up sacrificing the moral and spiritual goods that give meaning and dignity to our lives” (Guerra). Throughout the younger years of people's lives they tend to get picked on if they are different. The goals of side A is to keep the human nature original. The goal of side B is to keep the people happy with their lives even when something may be wrong. Both sides agree that people need happiness in to live a fulfilled life. The benefits of designer babies is that it would make someone happy even if they got to be a little bit more normal. Most people think of designer babies as parents just wanting to customize the baby’s looks to be how they want it and to make it the “perfect” baby, but sometimes not everyone wants to make their baby “perfect.” They want to make the baby more happy with its confidence for the future. If the baby will have a happier life then why wouldn’t someone want to do the process of designer babies if they had the option
