Labeled. There is a constant debate on whether or not it should be mandatory to label products containing genetically modified organisms otherwise known as GMO’s for short. With a bill in the works, and big money farms backing the House of Representatives it’s beginning to look like the legislation is going to fall in the favor of being label free. Anti label groups argue that the cost is going to fall directly onto the consumer, and there is no definitive scientific evidence that GMO’s are even dangerous. Our current president Barack Obama once said “We will let folks know whether their food has been genetically modified because Americans should know what they are buying” (Should 3). Currently there is no law that says that the food industry has to label whether or not genetically modified organisms are used in the making of their product, and many Americans are calling for change. With the research on GMO’s just beginning, people want to know what products they are eating possibly could be dangerous. Pro Labeling groups say that labeling benefits the consumer, but it actually might be the exact opposite.
