The Mandan tribe was around during the 18th century or during the time of The Lewis and Clark expedition. They had lots of capabilities and were very intelligent people. They were very successful for their period of time. According to Source B, “the tribe lived in North Dakota and South Dakota, the land on which the Mandan lived determined their lifestyle and culture”(Source B). The lifestyle of the Mandan was how anyone would’ve guessed it to be, they hunted, grew crops, traded with surrounding tribes. Some crops that they grew consisted of corn, beans, and sunflowers. Mandans hunted deer and buffalo. According to Source D “they lived in earth lodges, which were constructed in a very high technological way at the time”(Source D). To hunt, or even go into battle with the tribe used bows and arrows, stone ball clubs, axes, spears or knives. According to Source B, “the Mandan were also known as the “tattooed people” this was a specialty of theirs, these tattoos were very important in a Native American's life”(Source B).
Mandans were not only good at tattooing though. According to Source A “they were also good at beadwork, pottery, and painting”(Source A).
