I have a problem with my government. I honestly don't understand its disconnect in sending men and women overseas to war, and not ensuring their care when they return from the horror of it. This has touched my family personally as I am a victim of my father's PTSD, and his subsequent alcohol abuse from the Korean War. My daughter too, has her own tale of my son in law's PTSD and depression, so let me tell you another.

It's about a 51 year old Iraq Veteran who was so despairing, so anguished, he took a 5 gallon container of gasoline, poured it over his head, and lit himself on fire. He did this within 75 feet from a VA TeleClinic. People rushed to put the flames out as they consumed his body, but despite their efforts he died a few hours later.

Why is this? when so much of our hard earned tax dollars go to the Military Industrial Complex (over $596 billion or 54% of our discretionary funding), how does the government expect anyone to believe it can't build more facilities and hire more psychiatrists? An average of 22 Veterans are committing suicide daily, and it's as if the government doesn't care.

How does the Military War Machine manage to convince so many that it is an honorable institution, when it continuously ignores the human cost of its games? Since World War Two, the US has been in a war every decade. Has anyone ever thought how this has surely affected the psyche of each generation since the forties? How many lives, ours as well as theirs, become collateral damage in its heavy booted attempts to bring 'democracy for all?'

This man served his country, sacrificing his peace of mind and ultimately his life for the privilege of it. The fact that he did not receive the care he desperately needed, and was promised, is an egregious offense to ALL who serve. I grieve for this man's family, for my family, and for what my country is
