The Japanese military had grown in size over the years and the United States tried negotiating but the Japanese ended up cutting all diplomatic relationships with the United States. During this time a war was going on in Europe, World War II. People in the Pacific never thought about the cutting relationships with Japan would lead to war nor did they ever think they would be involved. President Franklin Roosevelt called December 7, 1941, “a date which will live in infamy.” December 7, 1941 was the day Pearl harbor was attacked. It was a surprise military attack made by the Imperial Japanese Navy against the United States naval base located at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii Territory. The attack on Pearl Harbor left a little more than 2,00 Americans dead along with damaged and destroyed navy ships and planes.
