We are adequately unaware of what is truly in the tap water in our homes. For the largest part, people are only informed by the news when there are outbreaks in our water supply resembling to e coli and deadly water amoebas. This usually tends to cause a scare and generally, people would think to solve this problem by drinking bottled instead of tap water, although what is the underlying truth about bottled water. Is bottled water beneficial to the community?
There has been a huge amount of speculations of tap water being harmful for us, especially when someone hears about it being contaminated and causing illness. Yet, what various amounts of people do not realize is that in fact, tap water is ever regulated and tested than bottled water.

In reality, not all parts of the plastic water bottle are able to be recycled. “The plastic bottle tops are currently not recyclable, they often wind up at the bottom of the ocean, and in the stomachs of a variety of animal species that mistake them for food” (Lights). This causes countless amounts of animals to die from the plastic they consider as food. Also, tons of plastic bottles are not being recycled. “Only 1 out of 5 plastic water bottles are recycled, contributing to 3 billion pounds of plastic bottle waste per year” (Bluenow). Those plastic water bottles are causing further harm than usefulness to us. Those plastic bottles are contributing to a growing problem for us. Especially in our oceans, there is a large patch of garbage in other words twice the size of Texas. “The patch is made up mostly of plastics of various types and sizes since a large amount of the other trash biodegrades or breaks up over time. This plastic pollutes the ocean in addition to animals in the ocean” (Bluenow). This will come to affect us how we acquire our food from the ocean. That the sea life is eating the plastic thinking it is food. Thenceforth we eat them in the process, we would be eating the plastic that they have eaten and the chemicals in their bodies into our own
