Most Becker College students have received about twenty vaccine shots in their lifetime. That number almost doubles if those people receive an influenza vaccine every fall. Not many people like to get these shots, they are painful, occasionally draw blood and are associated with the worst, going to the doctor. Many parents have recently raised other fears about vaccines that have the potential to be much more serious. A chemical named thimerosal is used as a preservative in vaccines. Thimerosal contains mercury which is said to lead to poor brain function. Another issue is with the MMR or the measles, mumps, rubella vaccine. Some think it is associated with causing autism. Unfortunately these risks are causing parents to be worried. These risks are preventing them from protecting they’re children from a whole spectrum of disease they are vulnerable to just because of the slight risk of a mental disease.
