STRAY DOGS Argumentative essay

But at dusk, when the hens
Where roosting on the perch,
There came the grim-faced master
Who stuffed the pups in a sack.
And softly, as when someone,
Jesting, throws her a stone,
Her tears, like golden stars,
Trickled down into the snow.

Nowadays the problem of stray dogs is burning issue. One can see it everywhere-at population aggregates, at countryside, forest area. Globally there are an estimated 500 million dogs, of which approximately 80% are stray or unwanted. Some of them were left by their owners, others grew up in the streets. The growing

Many people in our society consider stray dogs as a nuisance. They say things like: “They are dirtying our streets”; “They scare off our children”; “They bite people and spread rabies”; “Why aren’t they removed from here?”
The animal lovers say: “Dogs have a right to live too”; “We don’t own this earth, dogs have equal rights to live on this land”; “How can you throw out a mother and her small furry pups? Don't you have a heart?”
Both parties are right in a way. We cannot kill/remove stray dogs from a place because they are living beings like us capable of all emotions and suffering and hence have a right to like us to live in that space. So, to solve the problem of rabies and over-population of street dogs, we need to find solutions that are ethical and lawful. So, where does this problem come from? In my opinion the main cause is man himself, as an individual, and as part of the society. Many people buy pets just to show their own wealthy status. Many families who can't even take care of themselves properly buy a pet and can't take care of it. To walk down the street with a pet just to be seen is their main objective. No matter how much I love my country, I must say we are an undeveloped one, economically and morally. Showing off becomes even more important in such a place. A Latin saying goes, '' You should eat so you can live, not live so you can eat'' Well, where I live, it's the opposite. Financial status comes and goes overnight,

Some dogs and cats will turn feral and manage to survive, but their life spans will typically be very short; illness, lack of food during winter, fighting, developing infections from wounds, automobile collisions...all threaten the life of an animal who has turned feral. For the most part though, a household pet turned loose (or lost) does not survive for very long. A former pet does not have the same instinct as an animal which has lived in the wild its entire lifetime, such as a fox, coyote, or wolf, nor do many have the ability to adapt to the colder climes, depending upon the breed. One thing that many former rabbit owners do when they decide that their pet bunny is no longer cute, or is becoming a burden to them, is they take it to the nearest woods and release it, thinking the rabbit will hop off and establish its own home. An abandoned rabbit, however, is usually killed off very quickly by the local wild predators, having no instincts to protect itself...nor does it have a colony; as with most prey animals, their strength and defense comes in numbers. Dogs and cats who are abandoned or lost don't fare much better, though as I stated, some will manage to become feral. Of those who do, feral cats tend to live very rough lives, and feral cat colonies can overtake some areas and threaten species of
