With all the issues our world is facing today, I would have to say that poverty is among the worst. We are all well aware of the claims associated with poverty and how many believe that its percentage has been decreasing over time; that however does not change the millions of families who still fall on or below the poverty line. Indeed, there are programs such as WIC, SNAP, Medicaid and Welfare to help those in need, however, we are unaware that these programs help families in need just enough to keep them fed and housed. Families are not getting the support they need to bring them out of poverty, hence, keeping people at the poverty level or below, stopping them from becoming independent. Many struggle to find work due to lack of education or experience needed to complete the job at hand. The support some of these programs provide one, does not apply to everyone who needs the help and two does not account for some of the other expenses in people's life. For instance, a single mother would have to account for childcare, transportation to work or the child's school, food, clothing and fun activities for the child. Some of these programs however only help with a small portion of the individual's life. Not only are some of these programs for poverty not effective, the economy overall in the nation needs to be revamped. We should not be working just to lower the poverty percentage but rather we should be working to eradicate it. For solving this problem, I propose we begin with effective programs. Programs that help people find stable jobs that pay them well enough to support their family. Also, some people might not have obtained a certain level of education but are skilled and talented. We can set up programs that helps them put these skills and talents to
