The average dancer (12-18 years old) spends 15-20 hours a week training and practicing for dance. There are only 168 hours in a week. If you subtract the average sleeping time which is 70 hours (10hr a night) and take away the hours you spend at school (49hr) you have 49 hours of free time. These young dancers spend nearly half of their free time practicing and training. While football players only spend 5-13 hours of their free time to practice. So why is football considered a sport and dance isn’t? Dancing has been around since the cavemen era yet according to record, the first dance with choreographed steps was in 1500 bc. Sports, like wrestling, have been around since the caveman era but didn’t develop into a sport until 2000 bc. Ever since then, dancers have fought to have dance be considered a sport, yet it hasn’t. Some people argue that Dancing is an art because dancers have performances not games. Though they make a compelling point, a performance is a dancer's game.Therefore, dance should be considered a sport because it takes athletic ability, and there are world wide competitions.
